SELF GUIDED RAFTING RENTALS

Lehigh Rafting Rentals, Inc. offers NON-guided, challenging Whitewater Rafting and easier Summer Rafting Rentals on the Lehigh River. Our services allow you to raft the river WITHOUT a guide, avoid the crowds, choose the place you would like to stop for a river side lunch and guarantees that you will not be put into a raft with people you do not know. Plus, our rates are up to 40% less than the rates of a guided raft trip. All the necessary equipment is provided for one price. This includes the raft already inflated and given to you within walking distance of the river, life jackets, paddles, lunch containers and a river map. For colder days, we offer rentals of wetsuits for $10, nylon jackets for $2, wetsuit boots for $5 and wetsuit mitts for $3. Prior to rafting, an orientation is provided which explains the proper use of the rafting equipment and safety concerns.

THE BEST TIME TO GO RAFTING

CHOOSE THE LEVEL OF EXCITEMENT AND CHALLENGE FOR YOUR GROUP

(Based on average amounts of precipitation)

Most Challenging - March and April.

Moderate - May 1st through June 25th and September 16th through November 1st.

Easiest - June 26th through September 15th.

DAM RELEASES

Every day water is released from the Francis Walter Dam into the Lehigh River. The largest volume of water released is during the rainy months of March, April, May, and October. The large volume of water covers the rocks creating rapids and allowing passage through the most challenging section of the river, the Lehigh Gorge. Because of the popularity of whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River, the dam operators schedule special supplemental, moderate flow releases for the second and fourth weekends in June, the third Saturday in September, and the first and third Saturdays in October. Although these supplemental releases are lower in volume than those found during the rainy months, they do allow whitewater rafting through the rapids within the Lehigh River Gorge which many not be raftable otherwise.

Summer rafting takes place on a section of the Lehigh River that is raftable at any time of the year, without the need for a lot of rain or supplemental dam releases . Because of its mixture of easy rapids followed by calm pools , summer rafting offers a nice step up from most summer time raft trips and is enjoyed by everyone from the beginner through the experienced.

Whitewater Rafting Detailed Information
WHITEWATER

(March - June; mid Sept. - November)

The most action packed whitewater the Lehigh has to offer is found in the spring and fall within the boundaries of the Lehigh Gorge State Park. In addition to the many challenging rapids, you'll enjoy the wilderness surroundings and the wildlife that inhabit the river gorge. This raft trip is our most popular and it is enjoyed by adventurous first timers and experienced rafters alike.

We provide the rafts already inflated and within walking distance of the starting location (put-in). Transportation from the ending point (take-out) is do it yourself. Prior to launching of the rafts, all vehicles are driven (shuttled) to the take-out and parked. Directions and instructions are provided which explain how to get to the take-out and exactly how to shuttle the people and equipment in your group. After shuttles have been completed, rafts are launched. Upon arrival at the take-out, rafts are deflated, rolled up, put into vehicles, and driven back to Lehigh Rafting Rentals ( 9 miles ). Shuttles are easy and a mid-sized vehicle is usually large enough to transport a raft load of six people and all equipment.
